Major Bantam Blues win Gold in Lake Placid!

2017-11-14

The Major Bantam Blues win Gold at the Can-Am Tournament in historic Lake Placid October 27-29, 2017.

Heading to Lake Placid for the weekend, The Blues did us proud.  After playing a great round robin, the team finished  3 - 1, but even with that record, it appeared it wasn't going to be enough to play for Gold. It wasn't until late Saturday afternoon that the team learned they were to advance to the Gold Medal Game after the underdog Boston Terriers (0-3) pulled off their own 'miracle on ice' beating Plattsburgh (3-0) in a thrilling final round robin game. The Blues faced-off against the Center State Stampede (you know, from Morrisville, in the middle of NY), the only team to go 4-0.  Five minutes into the first period the Blues drew first blood with what would be the game winning goal by Riley on a beautiful set up by David and Tyler. It was a heavyweight battle for the rest of the game with the Blues and Stampede going toe-to-toe trading blows. With only 3 minutes left in the final frame, the Blues were called on a penalty.  With 30 seconds left and the Stampede pressing, Justin gave a heroic third effort and stripped the puck to put the game away with an empty-netter for the 2-0 win. Well played Blues!!! Congratulations to all the players, coaching staff and families on a great tournament weekend!
